Hello again from Japan! Today’s article is to review the Finnair amenity kit by Finnish design house Marimekko that Finnair gives out to its business class passengers on long distance flights.
I just flew Finnair’s A350 business class on two different flights from New York to Helsinki, and from Helsinki to Seoul in South Korea, and finally on Korean Air’s new A321neo to Tokyo Narita.
The experience on Finnair was great, and I loved the new business class seat and all its features! I’ll have a review out for these flights and the lounges in Helsinki soon.
Finnair’s Marimekko Amenity Kit
The Finnair amenity kit is by Marimekko, famous Finnish design brand.
On my first flight, I received the blue and gray version of the amenity kit.
On my second flight, I received the Blue and Green version of the amenity kit.
You’ll find the amenity kit sitting at your seat upon boarding the aircraft, along with the menu.
There’s a special page at the end of the menu booklet called “Amenities” dedicated to the Amenity Kit.
I do love that Finnair covers the details of the amenity kit, introducing you to both Marimekko and also to SEES for the body care products found on board.
However, I was confused by the statement on the toothbrush being usable for only up to three months, which seems like a rather short shelf life.
The edge of the kit is branded as Marimekko for Finnair, a very cool black label on the side.
Each amenity comes with an elegant paper “Travel Kit” cover that’s inset into the zipper lining of the amenity kit.
One small oddity in this amenity kit is that the edges of the zipper opening are different. The left side opens past the edge, whereas the right side stops short of the edge.
Generally, I prefer amenity kits that open around the edge. This design detail makes an amenity kit far more useful in every respect – see my Air Canada Signature Class amenity kit review for an example.
The amenity kit bag feels extremely high quality!
The material is a silky texture, and it’s also slightly see-through in the light.
Finnair Amenity Kit Contents
- Eyemask (oversized, Marimekko matching pattern)
- Ear plugs
- Bamboo toothbrush by The Humble Co
This amenity kit is the most minimal amenity kit I’ve seen, even moreso than Lufthansa’s new 2024 Amenity Kit.
The contents of the amenity kit leave much desired – with only a toothbrush and eye mask being of use. I would like to see at least lip balm or a set of SEES products like you’d find on board.
On the flip side, the matching eye mask is beautiful – definitely a keeper along with the pouch!
Instead of getting samples of SEES products, you simply get this card guide to the products offered on board in the lavatories.
Final Thoughts
Finnair’s Marimekko Amenity Kits are extremely elegant and beautiful.
However, they only provide the most basic level of amenities in a kit.
This is similar to Lufthansa and other European airlines as of late. For a total contrast, see how United Polaris does their amenity kit.
I would have loved to see at least a lip balm or a small selection of SEES products.
Pros
- Beautiful exterior design with Blue-Gray-Silver tones and Green-Blue tones for the other design
- Material feels very high quality and elegant
- Matching eye mask is gorgeous no matter which set you get
Cons
- Amenity kit contents are minimal and much less than on other airlines. I would have liked to see at least lip balm or some SEES products.
- The edges of the zipper opening are different. The left side opens past the edge, whereas the right side stops short of the edge. I prefer amenity kits that open around the edge of the package.
