Lufthansa’s New 2024 Porsche Design Business Class Amenity Kit

Following my scathing review of Lufthansa’s early 2024 Porsche Design Amenity kits earlier this year, it looks like Lufthansa and Porsche Design took in the feedback and again updated their amenity kit offered in Business Class in Spring 2024. The new kit is partially see-through and an airy, athletic, and flexible design, but the contents are still light.

Following my scathing review of Lufthansa’s early 2024 Porsche Design Amenity kits earlier this year, it looks like Lufthansa and Porsche Design took in the feedback and have once again updated their amenity kit offered in Business Class in Spring 2024.

I am writing this while on a Lufthansa B747-800i flight from Seoul Incheon South Korea to Frankfurt Germany.

Initially I was not too excited about flying the carrier – only because I like to try new carriers & products on these long routes, and have flown Lufthansa many times in the past year.

However, just like my last flight on the B747, the service on this flight is profoundly good, and honestly I’m beyond pleasantly surprised. Despite the aging hard product, the service, food, bedding and sleep offerings are absolutely excellent. I am very impressed with the service offerings, the flight is delightful.

I also noticed, to my great delight, a brand new Amenity Kit design. This new Porsche Design amenity kit is a massive improvement over the previous offering.

Lufthansa’s Updated 2024 Porsche Design Business Class Amenity Kit

The new Spring 2024 amenity kit follows some of the same design principles of the previous 2024 release, but the design is vastly different.

The case is no longer a tote bag design. Instead, it’s a rectangular pouch design, with two pockets.

The change to this design has averted the “folded tote” concept which left each amenity kit with two punched holes in the bag.

The new amenity kit is 5” tall and 8” wide. The amenity kit material is a vinyl-plastic, and primarily an athletic-mesh material.

There’s a wristband holder with a black plastic connector to the main zipper.

The texture is thick, and pressing it feels cool and sturdy. There’s a foamy interior within the mesh lining, giving the amenity kit thickness but also lots of flexibility.

The main pouch zipper only opens along the top of the amenity kit, and doesn’t extend along the sides. While I generally prefer kits that open along the sides as well, the design still works well for this amenity kit.

The main pouch is a mesh texture on either side. This gives the amenity kit an athletic airy design.

Inside the amenity kit, there’s a small blue label with “Lufthansa Business Class” and the airline’s logo.

In front of the amenity kit, there’s a solid black vinyl cover with the Porsche Design logo in white lettering.

At the barrier is another zipper.

This opens into a smaller pouch in front of the amenity kit.

Amenity Kit Contents

  • Black socks for the flight
  • Bamboo toothbrush and toothpaste set.
  • L’Occitane Cooling Hand Cream Gel
  • L’Occitane Ultra Rich Lip Balm
  • Compass Peppermint Mints (2x inside the bag)
  • Lufthansa Headphone covers, disposable

The kit features nice high quality L’Occitane hand cream and lip balm, which are solid keepers for long-term use.

The downside of Lufthansa’s amenity kit remains in its general lack of contents.

There’s no eye mask, and no ear plugs, or anything else really.

That said, I did see Lufthansa stocks a vast array of items in the bathroom on the flight.

Bathroom Amenities include:

  • Eye masks
  • Mouthwash
  • Ear plugs
  • A comb
  • Hand disinfection wipes

Basically, all the missing items from the amenity kit can be found within the Business Class bathroom instead.

Finally, I didn’t see a single person in Business Class use the disposable headphone covers that came with the amenity kits.

Final Thoughts

I’m happy to report that Lufthansa’s Porsche Design Amenity Kit has been re-released in Spring 2024 with a much improved design.

The new amenity kit is stylish and much better design that the previous release.

In some ways, the amenity kit reminds of the United Polaris Therabody Amenity Kits.

I’ll probably end up using the Lufthansa Amenity kit to store spare cables or excess photography accessories. The clear design makes it easy to identify what’s inside, and the kit is flexible without breakage.

The downside of the amenity kits is still in the general lack of contents. I find the Hand Cream and Lip Balm to be high quality, but there’s not much else to talk about. Perhaps an eye mask would be a nice addition. I also look to JAL’s Heralbony Amenity kit contents as a new standard with the phone holder and charging cable included.

Pros

  • The Lufthansa & Porsche Design Business Class amenity kit is a vastly improved design from the early 2024 iteration.
  • There are no punched holes in this new amenity kit.
  • The new kit is partially see-through and an airy, athletic, and flexible design.
  • The L’Occitance Hand Cream and Lip Balm both appear to be high quality.

Cons

  • The contents of the amenity kit are still light and lacking versus other carriers.
  • However, the key missing items are still stocked within the Business Class bathroom during a long-distance flight.
  • My suggestion to hand out headphone covers still has not been taken up, but that’s a personal matter! As a result, I didn’t see a single passenger use them during my flight.
