I had seen the virtually brand new LATAM Airlines VIP Signature Lounge SCL, featured on several websites, and was eager to finally experience it. The lounge opened in 2022 and features lots of modern design and features.
Fortunately, I had a ton of time to sample the delights of this lounge. I arrived at 6 am on my LATAM flight from JFK before heading off on my LATAM connection to Asuncion ASU at 3 pm. That gave me a full 9 hours to kill in the lounge.
Overall, the lounge is spectacular, and every bit as cool and awesome as described, and one of the best airline lounges I’ve been to. In fact, on entry, I was told it also won a design award, although I haven’t found this yet!
The lounge never got super crowded; however, it did feel “occupied” at various times. Broadly speaking, the emptiest times were before 7 am and between 11:00 am and 12:30 pm. While it was most crowded between 9 am-11 am and after 1:00 pm.
VIP Signature Lounge Location & Entry
Getting to the lounge was a breeze; it is located immediately after SCL’s Duty-Free shopping & walk area. Once you arrive at the area, you will find yourself at a major junction, with several lounges to the right and the LATAM VIP Lounge immediately to the left.
Simply take another left turn and you will find yourself at the main entry door.
I was told there are three different lounges are accessible. However, the two other lounges here are only accessible to LATAM credit card holders and LATAM elite passengers.
Although I was told the best lounge of all, the Signature VIP Lounge, is what I had entry to, and it is granted to LATAM elites, Delta Diamond Medallions, SkyTeam Elite Plus, and some LATAM elites and credit card holders.
Entry
Entry was very smooth, with the staff checking my boarding pass. I was then personally escorted inside, given a tour of the new facility, and walked all the way to the bathrooms and showers.
I must say that I found every single attendant was exceptionally friendly.
VIP Signature Lounge Layout and Space
The VIP Signature Lounge is exceptionally spacious with very large! Tall ceilings and tons of space. The layout is that of a large open room with spatial separations through the Architecture. The décor was beautiful and reminded me of an Art Deco 1920s theme, but just incredibly elegant.
The lounge featured many different rooms with a wide range of seating arrangements, including:
- Lounge sofas and single seats
- Single and dual tables to sit in
- Most tables have power ports, even the side tables.
- Bar seating
- High table seating
There is also one large conference room table which is spectacular for work. Without a doubt, it is an awesome space to spread out and work. I saw one businessman spend most of the day here laying out tons of paper and getting everything done.
Behind the main desk, you can find the Shower area and restrooms. I only tried the shower area, which I will go over later.
The VIP Signature Lounge also has a huge circular bar with high ceilings, fully stocked with all kinds of drinks. Can also make coffee at the bar. Plus, two separate coffee and tea bars and two orange juicer machines. Not to mention the two food service areas that I will go into later. The lounge also features a luggage storage room.
Nap & Rest Area
All the way at the back of the VIP Signature Lounge is the nap and rest area. The first is a rest room with a row of very comfortable lounge chairs.
Unfortunately, this area’s main drawback is no view into the airport.
Heading even further back, you find the restrooms. I found these two be to types with windows and without windows. The main difference is that rooms without windows do not have any views, just a bit more light.
Each room has a Twin bed with a pillow, comforter, and reading lights. However, I found the Bed was a little hard and stiff for my liking, it could definitely do with more cushioning. The main issue with the nap rooms was the lack of doors, which meant they were not as private as they should be.
The rooms come stocked with various amenities, including:
- Bottle of Water
- Earplugs
- Socks and Eye Mask
Kids Play Area
The VIP Signature Lounge is great for families with its kid’s play area. This is a triangular-shaped room located by one of the coffee lounges.
The spacious room features a TV with kids’ programs playing in Spanish. It also had a Digital projector on the floor for Digital Play. I didn’t see any toys in the area, only a variety of soft, bubble-like seats.
TV Screening Room
Across from the same coffee lounge as above is a large movie theatre-like screening and presentation room in one part of the lounge.
Inside the room are lounge seating in the back and very cozy chairs with side desks. When I looked in, I saw it was showing the news. However, I imagine this would be a fantastic place to lounge and watch a Soccer match or any big sporting event.
Overall, the room was very spacious and very secluded.
The VIP Signature Lounge Shower Rooms
Almost all premium lounges feature shower rooms, and the VIP Signature Lounge is no different. There are several shower rooms available. To access them, you must request access at the front desk, and then staff escort you to the bathrooms.
I found the shower rooms were a bit small, but they did the job. That being said, despite the rain shower head not being massive, it still did a good job and was comfortable and relaxing.
The decor was very tasteful, and I loved the color scheme and the elegant design with dark, classy finishes. Overall the rooms were spotless, featuring automatic toilets, full-height mirror, as well a mirror above the vanity with LED illumination.
Shower amenities
The shower room was well stocked with the following amenities:
- Shaving kit
- Dental kit
- Comb
- Massage soap
- Shampoo, bath gel, and body lotion. By Rainforest Foliage. Nice smell, fresh.
- Shower cap
Bathrooms
The VIP Signature Lounge bathrooms are all composed of individual stalls with lockable doors. Inside, you can find a bench, toilet, and sink. Keeping with LATAM’s sustainability model, only hand dryers and no paper towels are available. The hand dryer is to the side of the mirror, built in.
The VIP Signature Lounge Food & Beverage
The VIP Signature Lounge offers a buffet-style self-service food and beverage area. I got to experience both breakfast and lunchtime offerings, which they switched to between 11:30 am and noon.
In both cases, the options were incredibly numerous, and the buffet was regularly maintained and refilled at least once an hour. However, there was more choice at lunch than at breakfast. Popular lunch menu items included:
- Ravioli stuffed with mozzarella cheese.
- Grilled Beef.
- Pumpkin puree.
The food offering was not all about main courses, however. There were plenty of sandwichs and dessert options on offer.
One of my favorite features was the custom orange juice machines. This was so cool! Who doesn’t want absolutely fresh orange juice? Plus, the juice that came out of this was incredible; I could drink this all day.
I chose to sample the LOA Minga Loa West Coast IPA. After that, I also chose a Chilean pisco when offered the choice of Chilean or Peruvian pisco.
Final Thoughts
Wow, what can I say? Aside from this lounge is absolutely awesome! It reminded me of the Oman Air First Class and Majan Lounge at Muscat Airport. It also reminds me of the lounges for ANA and Japan Airlines in Tokyo, with smaller crowds.
The lounge is an excellent choice to stop in for a relaxing visit between flights. I would suggest an extended stay here, especially at lunchtime.
With many features, a very well-thought-out design, excellent architecture, and super comfortable seats, this lounge is hard to beat. The icing on the cake is it never got too busy.
Honestly, although there are some negatives, they are exceptionally minor all things considered. I would love to spend more time in this lounge any day of the week!
